Ask a Pro: Built Around the Patient

NEW GEORGETOWN OFFICE BRINGS ORTHOPEDIC CARE AND PHYSICAL THERAPY TOGETHER UNDER ONE ROOF

As one of the fastest-growing communities in Central Texas, Georgetown continues to attract new residents, businesses, and healthcare providers. Austin Orthopedic Institute is among them, opening a new office that expands access to specialty orthopedic care and adds a dedicated physical therapy department.

Founded by board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joel Hurt, the practice has served patients throughout Central Texas for years with a focus on personalized care, patient education, and strong clinical outcomes.

“Georgetown has experienced tremendous growth, and patients deserve convenient access to high-quality orthopedic care close to where they live,” Dr. Hurt says. “Our goal has always been to provide exceptional care while helping patients understand their injuries and treatment options so they can make informed decisions.”

The new office will also feature a dedicated physical therapy department, led by Director of Physical Therapy Alanna DiBiasi, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT (Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists). With a doctorate in physical therapy and experience ranging from military medicine to orthopedic sports rehabilitation, Alanna believes the biggest benefit of in-house therapy is improved continuity of care.

“Under one roof, we already have access to the patient’s imaging, surgical notes, and treatment history. If we have a concern or question, we can speak directly with the surgeon rather than waiting days for callbacks or records transfers.”

That collaboration can be especially valuable for patients recovering from procedures such as ACL reconstruction, joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, and other orthopedic surgeries. Therapists can tailor rehabilitation programs based not only on the patient’s condition, but also on the surgeon’s specific recommendations and the individual’s personal goals.

Dr. DiBiasi says many patients are surprised to learn that physical therapy is not simply a series of exercises. Instead, therapists work closely with each patient to develop a customized plan designed around what matters most to them, whether that’s returning to sports, walking comfortably, staying active with grandchildren, or simply getting back to daily life.

Physical therapy services are expected to begin July 1, shortly after physicians begin seeing patients in the new Georgetown office. Notably, Dr. Hurt says the therapy program is open not only to AOI surgical patients, but also to individuals recovering from procedures performed elsewhere.

Together, the expanded practice and integrated rehabilitation services reflect Austin Orthopedic Institute’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered orthopedic care with greater convenience and stronger outcomes for Georgetown-area residents.

The new physical therapy office is located at 1410 Blue Ridge Drive (off Westinghouse Dr.)
in Georgetown.
