EGA Annual Boo Run

The Exceptional Georgetown Alliance (EGA) makes everyday fun accessible to children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The EGA was formed by parents and educators in 2008 when summer camp funding was no longer available. EGA members understood the value of these summer camps and took on the job of finding financial backing to continue the programs.

EGA employs Special Education teachers and paraprofessionals to provide low teacher-to-student ratio at the Georgetown Rec Center camps. They also raise money to provide scholarships to help families cover the cost of this rare opportunity. Camps help children with social skills, occupational play, and adaptive recreational activities.

With help from business sponsorships and the generous time commitment by our high school sports teams, children who may not get an opportunity to play team sports are mentored by and get to play with “the big kids” throughout the school year. The seasonal heroes of the Eagles’ baseball team, Parks & Recreation lifeguards, Patriots boys basketball, and, starting this year, the Patriot girls’ volleyball team, spend time mentoring and showering the kids with skills and encouragement. It is a toss-up whether the kids or their spectator-parents enjoy the experience more.
