The weather is warm, and school is ending soon for the summer. With so many great local activities to choose from, now is the perfect time to consider Georgetown Soccer Association (GSA). Founded by professional coach Ray Thomas, the GSA has been providing fitness and training since 1981. It was Ray’s dream to provide soccer training for kids in a fun and safe environment, and the GSA has grown into a successful non-profit that hosts nearly 700 players.
“I believe what sets us apart is our staff and longevity,” says GSA Coach Jill Gardner. “I love how family-oriented everyone is. We are small, but we really care about our families, and overall development—not just training kids but helping them grow in their passion to play.”
PLAY FOR ALL
GSA incorporates a variety of team play with a multitude of goals—in every sense of the word. From recreational to select teams to summer camps, they welcome players, regardless of skill level, who wish to play and train.
LEADING FROM THE MIDDLE
To the people at GSA, soccer is not just about training; it’s about building kids up for a bright future. Director of coaches Manny Buentello says, “We create an environment that is fun and safe for players to get the tools they need to go forward in life.”
The coaches and directors take ‘play for all’ to heart and work tirelessly to provide financial aid via sponsorships from association families and community partners. Manny says, “It is our goal to help every kid who wants to, to play and train without worry.”
The GSA also offers training programs for high school players to help them develop the skills and stamina that can help make them eligible for soccer scholarships in college. Many college-age GSA alumni return to coach, and some older alums have brought their own kids to the field to continue the tradition of fun and excellence.
