Whether you’re starting your day at Starbucks with a cappuccino for you and a free puppuccino for your pal, or driving up to the bank window and getting a treat for your dog with your child’s lollipop, it’s clear the red carpet is out for canine companions all over Georgetown.
SHOP FOR YOUR PET
Georgetown is home to many boutique re-tail-ers that not only sell pet supplies and accessories, but also welcome your dogs to shop with you. Pupology on Williams Drive specializes in holistic pet nutrition—as Matilda discovered (facing page)—and Wag Heaven downtown boasts a self-service dog wash and often sponsors area pet gatherings and events. For snacks, Tail Waggins bakery, on Austin Avenue near GHS, also has a self-service dog wash and carries pet supplies.
SHOP AND EAT WITH YOUR PET
After shopping, if your stomachs start growling, you’ll be pleased by our numerous restaurant choices. Back in 2019, Governor Gregg Abbott signed SB 476 into law, which permits Texas restaurants to decide for themselves whether dogs are allowed on their patios. Nearly 40 area restaurants—just following the law, of course—now welcome people and their pooches. We’re sure that puts a smile on the Governor’s face since he invites everyone to “follow the latest tails” of his own golden retrievers, Pancake and Peaches, on Twitter.
Downtown eateries include Gumbo’s, Wildfire, 600 Degrees, and Roots. At Wolf Ranch you can share space at Moe’s, Cotton Patch, and Fish City; and elsewhere in Georgetown try Simmer Down and Rentsch Brewery, to name just a few.
Policies at large chain stores like TJ Maxx and Walmart may differ so it’s best to contact individual stores first. Downtown, however, things are a little more casual. At La Bella Casa, owner Jemme Lynn Wilks says her golden doodle, Murfie, and golden retriever, Finn, greet customers at the door and look forward to canine visitors. Princess Marlie, her other golden doodle, holds court nearby. Elsewhere in Georgetown, you are welcome to shop with your pup at Home Depot, PetSmart, Hobby Lobby, and Tractor Supply Co.
Plus, if you’re feeling pawsh and in the mood to slow down, the Georgetown Public Library invites everyone to read and relax with leashed dogs.
SPECIAL EVENTS
We must hound you to register already for the city’s sixth annual K-9 Kerplunk, Saturday, September 17 at the Georgetown rec center’s splash pool. WORK OUT YOUR PET
Dogs are always welcome to take a swim at Blue Hole Park (behind Monument Café), or hike the Good Water Trail and cool off in Lake Georgetown (off D.B. Wood Rd). Downtown, visit San Gabriel Park or the Bark Park (Holly St.). The Bark Park is partially shaded by majestic pecan trees and has six acres of fenced off-leash play for large and small dogs. Your pets will get a new leash on life, as they attempt the agility course, drink from the dog water fountain or relax under the pecan trees.
